Outside Stradbroke and Moreton Island

by | Apr 20, 2019 | Australia, Moreton Bay, Queensland Coast | 9 comments

Decided to head back to the top of Moreton Bay Island along the Pacific Ocean side. Exited the Gold Coast Seaway into 1 meter waves and blowing from the south east. This turned out to be a very rough ride as the swell was coming from the ass end. So the boat was doing that intolerable roll. We did manage about 6knots average because of the wind behind us and the current going our way. Reached the top of Stradbroke Island, avoiding Shag Rock, and opted to spend the night in Point Lookout across from Flinders Beach. Not the best decision …. it rolled all night with the swells coming in. Didn’t get much sleep at all. Headed out at first light to get to top of Moreton and around the corner to Lucinda Bay. This turned out to be an even more adventurous ride as the swells were about 2 meters but with the wind and current driving us we made 10knots at one point surfing the waves, but averaged over 7. Jacqui was expert in manoeuvring the boat …. me on the other hand just tried to stay vertical ….

Well, looking forward to your updates guys. Is this still part of the tryouts/tests or you have set the sails for the main adventure?
