… arrived in Bundeberg after a rolly trip up the coast from Urangan, and decided a game of squash was in order. We knew Bundeberg had a squash club but didn’t realize that there was only one club. Researched the times on a Saturday to go and play. Open at 1pm closes at 5pm, no squash on Sundays, go figure. Okay what are the options for getting there? Bus? 2 buses on Saturday 8:55 and 12:55. Needless to say, none of that works! Another option was an Uber … alas, no cars available, and besides it would have been an expensive game of squash. Next best or only other option was to take the dinghy up the river and then walk to the court. Blowing hard and whitecaps on the river. Dinghy ride was against the wind and the tide (my poor butt) and took 45 minutes. Hiked the 2 kilometres over to the courts just in time.
Bundy Squash court hire was for any amount of time that we wanted, perfect! and choice of courts. Bundeberg surprisingly has a good squash community despite having one club (5 courts, 2 glass back), good junior involvement and participation in Squash Australia. The court that was available for us was definitely in need of some TLC though. Had a look at the others and this was the best available except for the glass back courts that were being used. Great workout as always with Jacqui! I’ll beat her one day in that length game!
Ride back in the dinghy was smoother as the wind had died down and only took us 30 minutes. We are going to try again for a game this week. We are here for the week because of Cyclone Ann moving in from the North. Not sure if it will come down this far but everyone seems to be staying put for the time being.
Wow that’s a lot tougher than fighting the traffic over the Lions gate bridge!!!! Keep up the good play Jacqui! Good plan to avoid the cyclone.
Good luck getting there again ??
