Cape Capricorn

Old

New

We set off to Keppel Bay Marina to get our new propeller for the dinghy at 6am (first light). Rockhampton was the only place that had a suitable propeller and it is only 35 min drive to Keppel Bay Marina. We knew it was going to be a 65NM trip and can be done in one day, but we decided that instead of arriving at the marina when it was dark we would stop at Cape Capricorn. Either that or another 6NM to Hummocky Island. We had heard that both can be difficult with the swell. They weren’t wrong! The swell during the night was totally uncomfortable so after a few hours we set off again in the dark to get to the marina first thing in the morning. Tied up to the marina and proceeded to get our bearings. Looked for a squash court, of course, but only available in Rockhampton, which turned out to be too difficult to get to, considering the hours of operation. (3-9pm). Used the courtesy car, which was a real treat, to go get some more groceries while we waited for the part to be couriered. Prop received in the afternoon, put it on and tested in the marina. All gold!

Dinner out at the local restaurant at the marina. Perfect! Next morning got some extra fuel in the jerry cans and set off for Great Keppel Island. Supposed to be a great little place.
