After dropping Deb and Pete at the Abell Point Marina for the airport transfer we stocked up, did laundry, cleaned the boat and the next day picked up Terri and Dave. Off we go to Whitehaven beach! Great beach and we did the whole beach again for 12KM return hike. Everyone had the fitbits on so we knew exactly how far and how long. I just know it was a long frikkin way! Good dip in the water when we got back! Next day it was Windy Bay … note to self, it’s called Windy Bay for a reason, not a good anchorage, but we did accomplish a few boat chores. Great help with installing the new anchor washdown pump and the canopy got a great sew job!
Terri showed off her sailing skills on the way over to Hamilton Island. The girls had a lot of experience in their younger years.
Had a good time on Hamilton, except this time we had to hoof it everywhere and rely on the “Green” and “Blue” bus. Spent time in the Tavern where you can meet some interesting people. Shared a table with a newly wed couple Pauly and Em. They shared their stories of getting married and the honeymoon. Pauly also started to talk about his passion with his Irish Wolfhound and Great Dane dogs. He assists local farmers with wild boar control, they are seen as pests. Uses the dogs for hunting. Very knowledgable regarding training for the dogs, but I won’t go into detail here about the hunt.
The girls did a hike up to the top of the island while Dave and I went over to the Hamilton Island Golf Club, which is actually on Dent Island. Pick you up at the passenger ferry and take you over. Supplied us with some great rental clubs, and they actually matched; not a mish-mash of different clubs. If you ever want to have a great round of golf at Hamilton, practise and then practise some more and take lots of balls. Needless to say I haven’t played for a while so …. a bit of a disaster, but the views were spectacular and besides I had no expectations!
The rest of the time was a bit of a whirlwind … back to Cid for a hike up to the top, over to Long Island for a beach day and then to South Molle for yet another hike and great views. Got some wild life, the Curlew was watching us and trying to hide in plain sight.
Back to Abell Point Marina for a night out at Sorrentos before the kids had to get back to Sydney and the … shall I say it … jobs! Visit was all too short but with luck and good winds we will see them in December.
Some pics of the hikes, curlews and golf!
