Hamilton Island Marina

Stock Up!! … and a decent shower! Time to come in to a posh place for some provisions and of course, more grog. Seem to be drinking a little more than usual, but then again whose counting. Hamilton Island is an expensive holiday resort with some mega yachts. The amount of money in here is staggering. We had one moored beside us. Moatize, a 46 meter yacht that takes 70,000 litres of diesel for a 6000 nm range and a staff of 12. The owner is a mining tycoon and the yacht is worth around $10mil. We were dwarfed by this thing.

There are no cars on the island except for a free local bus, so the only other method of transportation is a rented golf cart…. and there are a lot of them.

Facilities are nice and enough shops to satisfy. On arrival you need to contact the marina office and they will send out a “concierge” to escort you in to the berth. Takes your money right there on the dock.

After we got sorted, we headed out to the beach resort on the far side of the island (walking distance… but we had the cart). Got there in time to watch them set up for a beach wedding. We didn’t think the drift wood that the staff brought out was going to support the flower arrangement, but they did a great job for the happy couple.

It definitely looks like it was a fun and refreshing break.
