Time to bring the boat onto dry land and spruce up the bottom. Last time was in February last year when we travelled from Brisbane down to the Gold Coast where BoatWorks did a great job. This year we are in Tasmania and opted for the hard working folks at Kettering – Able Marine (Sam) did a great job sanded the hull, anti-fouled and hull polish!
Discovered when we got the boat on dry land that we needed a new propeller and rubber boot as the bushing on the old prop had way too much movement. Earlier in December as we were making our way down the coast and caught in a thunder and lightening storm off Yamba we experienced the engine shake, putting it down to a bunch of seaweed wrapped around the prop because after a while it stopped. Turns out that the rubber “boot” that is between the hull and sail drive had worked it’s way off and THAT is what was wrapped around the prop and probably did some additional damage causing the bearing to be loose.
There were a few other chores to get done as well. Soooo nice to have her in ship shape and gleaming clean.
Small list
- Fix a small leak in the forward head
- Done – took off the seacock and resealed, yeah the electric toilet is in working order nothing better than hitting a button to flush versus the hand pumping!
- New holding tank hose
- Done – as in not necessary
- Salt water anchor wash-down pump blockage
- Done – as in embarrassing because the water comes form the forward bathroom seacock inlet hose which was turned off (see … learn something new about the boat all the time)
- Speedometer
- Done – the high pressure hose wash off down on the bottom worked
- Grease rollers
- Done – a little light grease on some rollers works light a charm
That was basically it!. We stayed on the boat during this time and had a dinner out at the Oyster Cove Inn. Back in the water after a couple of days and then waited for the weather and we took off for Port Arthur to see if we could get into the ruins.
