Rogoznica, Croatia
Rogoznica is a municipality and a popular tourist village on the Dalmatian coast in Croatia that lies in the southernmost part of the Šibenik-Knin County, in a deep bay sheltered from wind, about 30 km from Šibenik.
Headed to Blue Lagoon for a couple of days in a very busy bay with all the tourist boats. Pete and Deb on Galene decided to stay behind in Split in order to take care of boat things and to explore more of the area. Blue Lagoon was a nice stop over for a couple of nights. More swimming and watching the charter boats trying to anchor. We left Blue Lagoon and tucked around the corner to Solinska beach. The beach is on the island of Drvenik Velik and has a small fishing village on the other side where we hiked over to find tomatoes. The village was beautiful first thing in the morning. Had coffee and bought some bread. No tomatoes. Jacqui of course fed the local cat.

We had an entertaining evening watching a charter boat trying to anchor in the beach area, every time he dropped the anchor and reversed back way too hard so the anchor never had a chance to grab. They must have tried about 9 times. They even had someone in the water trying to dive on the anchor to check it out. Very entertaining.
The next stop was a 100% protected anchorage with a “beach” area. Beache here are small rocks and not sand. Broke out the Finska game and had a relaxing time on the beach. Made friends with the a young kid from the Ukraine. Jacqui got her kid time in.

Moved around on the Tuesday to tie up to the town quay so we could get electricity and water and to wait out a couple of rainy days. Girl hair time, boat clean etc. Jac’s and I took a hike up to the lookout across the bay where there is a fancy marina.

The hike took us up to the Dragons Eye lake. A salty lake in the middle of the island. The lake has a number of legends surrounding it and the one I liked was this one.
“One version is related to Greek mythology, which says that the terrible dragon Murin, as the son of the goddess Hera and the god of the sea Poseidon, protected the local population from bandits – but for that he demanded tribute – every year he looked for the most beautiful girl to become his wife. Unfortunately the young girls do not survive the dragon wedding night.
So the ceremony took place every year, until one year the chosen girl was liked by the ancient Greek hero Aristoles, who appeared on the winged horse Pegasus, and challenged the terrible dragon, in order to save the girl. Legend has it that young Aristoles mortally wounded the dragon Murin, so he dug his own eyes out with his claws, threw one far behind the island of Mljet, but the other fell at his feet. The dragon’s eye melted the stone, and a pit was formed, the sea water filled the pit and today’s lake was created!”
