Refuge Bay to Bateman’s Bay

When we left Refuge Bay in Pittwater we made our way to Manly Cove in Sydney Harbour. Went ashore for a couple of provisions and just couldn’t believe the amount of people around. Living on the boat has it’s merits. On our way back to the boat we run into Mike and Helen from Nika trying to anchor in the cove. They too had made their way down from Refuge Bay, so we met up with them and another couple on board Toucan2.

Next day we are off at 5am. Jervis Bay was a good 82 nautical miles and with the wind behind us we knew we could make it in about 13 hours. Still light! Didn’t have to get too far into the bay to find a good anchorage. We had considered spending more than one night, but given the weather window and number of nautical miles still to do we wanted to get further down the coast.  Maybe we will have more time to linger on the way back up the coast.

Pleasant evening and then off we go again at 5 or was it more like 6am to get to Bateman’s Bay. Good sail down the coast getting up to 8.2 knots at one point, however the winds that we expected later in the day didn’t materialize, so we had the engine going for awhile. Arrived into Bateman’s Bay around 3 and secured ourselves a good anchorage for the winds that were expected that night. And sure enough the wind picked up in the morning and we have seen upwards of 40knots on the gauge. Still blowing out of the north with a change to the south later on….. still waiting. In the meantime AUSTRALIA IS ON FIRE!!
