Port Douglas north of Cairns is a small coastal town with a population of about 3,500 that caters to a large number of tourists that come to enjoy snorkeling and diving on the Great Barrier Reef. We spent a week here waiting for the weather to die down as it was gusting hard and we didn’t want to be out in it. North of Port Douglas there are not a lot of other places to put in. Cooktown would be alright, but the anchorage in the harbour is very shallow.

Got some boat chores done and found a rigger to go up the mast to find out what was happening with our mast light. Had to order a new mast light online and get it delivered to the marina.

Met some other cruisers and spent some time with Graham and Cathy off of “Island Lady”. Went with them to pick up supplies and visit Daintree and the Mossman Gorge.

Boat chores:

  • Re-paint 2 window frames
  • Fix fiberglass on cockpit locker hinge
  • Service windlass
  • Fix yet another broken spring in a door latch
  • Unclog bathroom holding tank (no pictures, shitty job)
  • …..

It looked like Noel MavGyver in action. “No picture, shitty job” – LOL…

I have to claim the fame for climbing the mast myself in the past. My mate, before setting up the sails for Wellington, he asked me to install the radar on the mast of 45 foot sailboat. It was ‘fun’ I say ?. By the way, did you see any crocodiles?
