Fraser Island

Pete and Deb came along for a great 2week adventure up at Fraser Island. We set off on into the bay to get caught up and then off overnight up to Double Island point. The entrance to to southern end of the Sandy Straits. In May the weather turns a bit cooler so we were rugged up for part of the adventure. After getting to Kingfisher Cove we decided on the 11 kilometre hike into Mackenzie Lake and 11 km back out. Long day of hiking but well worth it. I was expecting a little more from Mackenzie Lake, but a great spot nonetheless.

Headed off to Bundaberg after a few days overnight and ran into a small squall that took out our GPS and when we were bringing in the foresail we snapped the rope out of the furler. Jacqui managed to get it in after crawling onto the deck and turning the furler by hand. Where was I … you ask,  on my 4 hours off down below until I heard the commotion up on deck. Managed to limp into Bundaberg and repaired the furling line on the foresail. Got a new GPS unit from Raymarine ordered up and delivered. All set to go again!

Headed to Lady Musgrave for a look at one of the reefs at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef. Lovely couple of days there and an Island explore. Tricky to get in and out of the reef so Pete and I were up on deck looking out for “Bombies”. Jacqui said we had to turn to the port once going through the entrance. When she turned starboard we were yelling to go to port. Apparently she got her port and starboard mixed up.  After leaving Lady Musgrave we went down the outside of Fraser Island where we caught a couple of Tuna. (sushi time!) and ran into another small squall that took down our spinnaker pole. Pulled into Double Island Point Bay and strapped it to the deck. With all of this excitement we knew we were running out of time so we had to do a marine landing at Mooloolaba to drop Pete and Deb so they could get an Uber to the airport for the trip home. Aaaaahh! another great time on the Mad boat!
